The Tans Find Their Way Home

I have loved being the president of Shared Housing this year, and when one of our families was chosen to be the first family to be the recipients of A Home for the Holidays we were thrilled! The Tans knew they were getting an apartment that would have rent and utilities paid, but they had no idea that apartment would be three bedrooms and fully furnished.
What a wonderful Christmas present it was for me to see this family view their home for the first time. The family had been living in one room with a bathroom they shared with others, so they never thought they would have their own bedrooms and 2 bathrooms just for them!
We loved using our Lifestylist® skills to turn this empty apartment into an inviting home for a wonderful, deserving family

North Texas Giving Day

I love these kids. From the moment I was introduced to Shared Housing I knew I wanted to help. After 20+ years I'm still involved, and this year I have stepped up to be president of this very special organization.

On September 17th The Communities Foundation of Texas will be hosting North Texas Giving Day - the day when your donation can go further than ever to help the Shared Housing kids and families.

Just visit this site on the 17th and make a donation. Every donation large or small will help us get closer to our goal of making our dream of the Green Haus a reality.

Spicing Things Up

We really enjoyed going down to the Dallas Farmers Market this weekend and learning about Plated - a service that delivers the portioned ingredients and recipes to help you prepare meals at home. An interesting concept that might be a great resource especially for singles or empty nesters.

One of the things I really enjoyed was their focus on spices - they even had you take a "spice quiz" to find out which was the perfect spice for you. I was Cumin which makes sense  - one of my favorites.

Spices are a flavor loaded way to enhance a dish without adding a lot of calories - this experience has challenged me to get into the kitchen and be more creative with what I use.

Memory Lane: Ciudad

I was going through some old posts and found this one from 2005.

Ciudad was such a great restaurant - can't wait until Chef Joanne Bondy opens Stocks & Bondy at the Dallas Farmers Market!

Last night I went to my favorite restaurant that happens to be in Dallas - Ciudad. The food is always incredible and Chef Joanne Bondy was in the kitchen. As we were happily enjoying our appetizer, a very handsome man walked past who looked familiar, and it turned out to be Val Kilmer!

Apparently he has been in New Orleans shooting a new film tentatively titled Deja Vu. Shooting was set to start just before Katrina ravaged the area, but the film and it's crew was one of the first to return and bring some much needed business to the area after the storm.

Great news - Mr. Kilmer was apparently a welcome guest - polite, engaging, you never would have known he was a "star" if it wasn't for that famous face.

One of the reasons that Ciudad is so successful even after 6 years is that everyone is treated like a star, and you never know when you'll see one!

Til Midnight at The Nasher

One of our favorite things to do during the Summer months in Dallas is happening on Friday - Til Midnight at The Nasher. Get out your blanket, reserve a picnic basket from The Nasher Cafe by Wolfgang Puck and get ready to have a memorable evening at the Nasher Sculpture Center.

A Dog Day Afternoon at The West Village

This guy had the right idea at the West Village - read the paper, enjoy a beverage and do some great people watching. We love how pet friendly this community is!

Farmers Market Recipes for the Fourth of July

I love this time of year - the grocery stores and farmers markets are full of fresh produce and goodies that are begging to be included in my 4th of July cooking.

We've put up our favorites on the Lifestylist website - take a look and choose which is your favorite.

Rain, Rain, and More Rain

We have lived in Dallas for awhile but can't remember having this much consistent rain in ages.

The benefit? Everything is green, temps have stayed down and there are lots of great photo opportunities we haven't had before.

We packed up the tripods and cameras last weekend to get some shots of the swollen Trinity River and Dallas skyline. It made us more proud than ever to be Dallas Dwellers.

Big Changes at The Dallas Farmers Market

There are big changesd happening at  the Dallas Farmers Market - Two sheds were torn down this week - anxious to see what  they will be putting up in their place.

Stocks & Bondy Debuts at Savor Dallas 2015

Savor Dallas starts this Thursday, and we were thrilled to hear that Chef Joanne Bondy will be debuting her new Stocks & Bondy offerings on Friday at this event. She will be serving Burgundy Beef Broth with Perigord Truffle Taralli.

As always, Chef Joanne is bringing the trends to Dallas -bone broths are one of the most talked about trends right now and Chef Bondy will be the first to focus on this in Dallas. Stop by and say hello on Friday - we'll be there helping her serve.

Snowy Weekend in Dallas

I can't believe it's the last day of February and we are snowed in!

Our Northern friends can't believe this amount of snow can shut a city down, but when  you don't have a way to move it and you get ice on top of it you are stuck.

We are going to use this as a reason to spend some time in the kitchen and work on some recipes - can't wait to share!

Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Celebrations

There is no question about it - Oak Cliff knows how to party. The recent Mardi Gras parade was proof of that where several Oak Cliff neighborhoods outdid themselves with floats and themes that made you believe that there's no place like home.

Congratulations to the Winnetka Heights Neighborhood Association for their blue ribbon winning float!
